Protection enquiries for honed stone

Preserve the finish you chose.

Photograph the existing sheen

Honed surfaces have a different visual character from polished stone. Send images in diffuse daylight and reflected light. Explain whether the current finish is uniform or whether there are dull, shiny or stained patches.

Consider the finish, the edge profile and the light across your surface.

Do not select from a name alone

A film labelled matte or satin may not match bare honed stone exactly. Review the actual product and sample availability. Consider both the appearance and feel, particularly where the protected top meets an untreated edge or vertical face.

Assess preparation separately

An uneven finish may need assessment before protection. Do not polish or sand a patch in an attempt to prepare it without advice. Agree any preparation and the expected appearance in writing before scheduling work.
