Two different approaches.

Protection film vs stone sealer

Choose a system by the problem you want to address. A surface film and a penetrating sealer are not interchangeable treatments.

What a sealer does

A penetrating stone sealer is intended to reduce absorption and improve stain resistance in suitable stone. It does not make the stone stain-proof. Whether sealing is needed depends on the material. Ask your stone supplier before applying a product, and follow the relevant instructions.

Consider the finish, the edge profile and the light across your surface.

What changes with film

Film adds a physical layer over the surface. The exact product determines its appearance, suitability and performance. It also introduces edge and seam details that a penetrating treatment does not. Discuss both the finished look and the maintenance requirements before choosing it.

What neither option fixes

An unstable joint, a crack, loose stone or a burn is not automatically repaired by adding protection. Existing damage must be assessed separately. Avoid choosing a treatment solely because it sounds capable of hiding a mark; the preparation and expected result need to be stated clearly.

Questions worth asking

What material is my top? What finish will I see afterwards? Which sections are included? Where will film end? Is existing treatment compatible? What are the product-specific care requirements? A useful quote answers these questions in the context of your actual surface.
