How to photograph stone for a quote

Better photographs. Fewer follow-up questions.

Start wide

Take a full view of each surface and one image showing how the pieces connect. Remove clutter that hides joins or edges. Keep the camera steady and use ordinary daylight when possible rather than applying filters.

Consider the finish, the edge profile and the light across your surface.

Then show the detail

Photograph edge profiles, corners, cut-outs and any damage. Include one view across the surface toward the light to show sheen. If a mark is subtle, explain its location instead of digitally enhancing it into something misleading.

Label the images

Match each picture to a section on your measurement sketch: island A, wall run B, vanity C. Include the material name if known and a short description of existing treatments. Attach original images to your enquiry email where possible.
