Let the room decide.

Gloss, satin or matte?

Finish selection is about more than a label. Consider the stone, the light and how the surface will sit beside cabinetry, splashbacks and uncovered stone.

Read the room in daylight

Look at the benchtop at different times of day. Strong side light and pendant reflections can make small differences in sheen more apparent. Photograph those views for the enquiry so the discussion is grounded in the room rather than a product swatch alone.

Consider the finish, the edge profile and the light across your surface.

Compare against your actual stone

If a sample is available, compare it with the selected stone under the lighting where it will be used. The same finish can feel different over pale marble and dark granite. Ask about the specific film being quoted and which finish options are actually available.

Consider adjoining surfaces

An island top may meet a waterfall, a splashback or an unprotected return. Decide whether these surfaces need to read as a continuous finish. Include all of them in the photos, even if you initially intend to cover only the top.

Document the choice

Record the product and finish in the accepted quote. Terms such as satin and matte can vary between product ranges. Written identification helps avoid confusion at installation and makes future care or replacement discussions more precise.
