Linear metres and area are different
A linear metre measures one metre along the length of a roll. Its area depends on the roll width. For example, one linear metre of a hypothetical 1.2-metre-wide roll has an area of 1.2 square metres. This is arithmetic, not a statement of available product widths.
The shape changes the order
A long narrow run and a square island can have equal areas but need different cutting layouts. Material width, orientation, seams and trimming affect how pieces fit. Sketch every surface and note dimensions before requesting a supply quantity.
Confirm allowances before buying
Do not add a universal waste percentage and assume the order is correct. Ask for a layout appropriate to the selected film. Confirm available width, cutting increments and minimum order before committing, especially where one large piece is intended to cover an island.
